White & Black is a cute story about a white and black angel. They work as partners in sending souls to heaven or hell. Corresponding with their colors, the white angel sends souls to heaven while the black angel sends them to hell. The way they grow depend on the souls they get to send. The earth has gotten corrupt and black angels grow quickly more than white angels do. Once they have reached their growth limit, they disappear unlike white angels who reincarnate.
Black angel Eiji has fallen in love with Kouki the white angel. Eiji only took the chance on showing and proving his love to Kouki when it was almost his time. Eiji knew that black angels do not disappear. They become gate watchers in hell. Kouki didn’t want that to happen. God then told him to make a wish. He wished for Eiji back. He got his wish in exchange for his wings.
Kouki became like a fallen angel. He couldn’t fly anymore. He couldn’t send souls to heaven anymore. All he did is work like a human and raise Eiji. Yep, Eiji was back, but in human form. Of course, Eiji doesn’t remember his previous life so it was like back to zero. But Eiji’s feelings were clear that he likes Kouki. He waited for the time for Kouki to tell him that he likes him too as well.
I like this story. It’s cute and simple, but it’s quite short and the ending’s bittersweet. It’s sad that Kouki had to end up like that. He may age, but slower than humans do. One of them will die earlier than the other. Most likely Kouki will have to live longer than Eiji would. But with this thought, Eiji knows they will be with each forever in heaven.
