Dennou Coil Ep. 17
May 20, 2008 @ 4:58 am (0 Comments)
Haraken kept having dreams about Kana. His Aunt, concerned about him, had told him to have a thorough check-up at the hospital. The girls, on the other hand, are busy with other things. Yasako was supposed to start right away on her independent research, but got distracted when she saw Amasawa and her 2 underlings. Amasawa was going to capture another Illegal to complete whatever she’s trying to do. You know, I kind of understand her intentions — saving her brother simply put — but her method is confusing me. Why was she collecting those Illegals again? I mean, inside her body?
Yasako goes to the library to search online about kirabugs and its importance. While reading, she was startled when Haraken greets behind her. They went outside to talk about an obsolete space that she discovered from following Amasawa. Then she tells him about what Amasawa and her talked about in the hospital regarding her brother and the kirabugs. It seems Haraken gets an idea from that, but doesn’t tell it to Yasako. When Yasako was about to confess, as it seems to me, about something, Haraken cuts her off and tells her that they should check the next day the obsolete space. They didn’t get to meet the following day though since Haraken goes ahead of her. He searches frantically for Amasawa. He asks her 2 underlings, but they ran away from him. Things didn’t look too well with Amasawa when Haraken’s Aunt suddenly went to there to erase her encodes. The 2 underlings tried everything to chase the Satchii off. Only to no avail. During this chaos, Haraken finally sees Amasawa. He tells her that he wants to do a trade with her — his offer is that he’ll give her the access code to the Satchii if she will help him get to the other side. Yasako realizes that Haraken might have gone to the obsolete space without her since the obsolete space is near where Kanna died.
Wow, a lot (but nothing too complicated) happened in this episode.

Yasako had a dream of 4-4-2-3 again, but the episode doesn’t revolve around that. Yasako and Fumie are left with finishing their research paper for the summer. Fumie wanted to finish it right away with what they only have. Yasako didn’t like the idea of just leaving it at that when they told Haraken they would help him. In the middle of their research discussion, Yasako gets a call from the hospital about her grandmother. Not only her grandmother created trouble in the hospital, she also became a patient when she was only visited a friend.
Yasako went back to the hospital to get the medicine her grandmother forgot. She suddenly hears voices similar to that when an obsolete space is nearby. She finds out it’s only Fumie’s little brother spying on Amasawa. Not only that, she sees the pictures of FUmie his Micet took including pictures of Yasako tripping or falling down a hole. XD She couldn’t The two end up watching Amasawa who was also in the hospital. Yasako sees a bed-ridden boy having the same scar with 4-4-2-3. She freaks out even more when she sees the room number Amasawa went in.
So we find out more about Amasawa’s past and her connection to 4-4-2-3. No wonder she’s a boyish biatch. XD

Episode 13
The episode is about Denpa who’s secretly raising an Illegal. His Illegal isn’t the dangerous type though. It’s rather afraid of humans except for Denpa. It likes him because he feeds it. Denpa named it Plesio. There used to be many of them, but they disappeared one by one until the last small one was left. It grew in time as it ate a lot. Plesios can only stay in dark places. Anything that’s light destroys their bodies. A little later in the episode, Denpa discovers that a building will be constructed where Plesio is living. So Denpa, Haraken, Fumie, and Yasako look for a place to relocate it. They did it at night, but because of many hurdles they didn’t get to arrive at the place they found for Plesio until dawn came. They try to hurry, but to no avail. Plesio saw factory chimneys that looked like his family. He desperately went to that factory, but the sun rose quickly. Poor Plesio. He was so cute even though he was all black and just curves.
His shape is like how a kid would draw a dinosaur.
This is a really touching and sad episode. It’s hard to get attached to something whether it’s alive or not. We just have to accept the fact that nothing lasts forever, but memories do and that’s something we can forever keep in our hearts and minds.
Episode 14
More than half of this episode is a recap narrated by Fumie’s brother. He also shows us proofs of how his sister “abuses” him that he’s going to use to sue his siter when he becomes a policeman or lawyer. :P The rest of the episode is Haraken’s encounter with the mysterious guy who seems to be watching him and the other kids’ actions. He gives Haraken a warning about researching deeper on Illegals and whatnot. He also mentions to him about Dennou Coil.
Episode 15
Yasako goes at the other side of the Daikoku station to look for obsolote spaces, but ends up getting lost. Then three boys go after her as they had mistaken her to be Yuko Amasawa when one of them overhears Yasako’s mom call her Yuko. She ran away and was able to hide with the help of another 6th grader boy named Takeru. As they walk around the area, Yuko feels she has been there before. She tries to remember what happened to her at that place when she was little with the help of, once again, Takeru. He offered to help since he’s familiar with the place.
Yasako desperately runs through the place she thinks she’s been before. Then she discovers an obsolete space through Imago. But a lot of Kyuu-chan arrived and erased them before she was able to follow the fog along a street. Takeru also stopped her because he believes it’s dangerous if she goes any further.
It was already night time when Yasako arrived home. She takes a bath, thinks about Takeru and her mysterious past. Then the last scene is with Takeru on a phone call. He told whoever he was talking to that he met someone with Imago just like Kanna.
Man, some episodes get boring, but episodes like this deepen the mystery. The Kanna girl sure is interesting.

I’ve seen up to episode 20 of Dennou Coil. I should catch up on my summaries and reviews. -_-
Episode 11
Daichi plans to catch an Illegal so he could get a lot of metabugs. He came up with that idea after thinking about Isako’s activities. They got an Illegal with the help with Kyoko (Yasako’s younger sister). Daichi wouldn’t listen to Denpa who kept telling him that Illegals are dangerous. It was a very small fish yet it created a Space of its own. He fed the fish with random textures. It kept growing every time he feeds it. The fish grew so huge that it was already outside of his home and Spaces occupied in different parts of the town. Everybody was surprised. Tamako went out to find the culprit. She finds Daichi and arrests him for the trouble he made.
Denpa asks Fumie and Yasako to keep Daichi from being arrested. They didn’t know he was already caught. Megabaa, on the other hand, went to investigate. Tamako asked her for help. Before Megabaa agreed, she said Tamako should beg first. If Tamako does, she will forgive her for what happened 4 years ago. It wasn’t mentioned what happened 4 years ago unfortunately. Tamako agrees to this and bows her head. Megabaa accepted it and went to work on the metatag. Fumie snatches the metatag. She wouldn’t let Tamako have the metatag easily unless Tamako releases Daichi. Daichi was released as Tamako was left with no other choice. It doesn’t end there yet. Fumie tells Daichi to admit his defeat in their duel. Left with no other choice as well, Daichi bows his head and admits his defeat.
Even after the trouble Daichi caused, he hardly felt down. Though he was sad about the little fish he caught and fed.
Episode 12
Kyoko always hangs out with Daichi to search for an Illegal. The second time Daichi brought a sleeping Kyoko home, Kyoko suddenly kissed him. After that, the next scene is of a naked Daichi (twice actually; only his butt could be seen though) checking himself down there; wondering when his hair would grow and if it would grow on his face first. Denpa calls him. When Daichi wore his glasses to answer the call, he saw his face on the mirror and freaked out. He went into hiding after that. Denpa’s worried, but Fumie tells him that they’ll see each other on school anyway the following day.
Like what you see from the screenshots, Daichi suddenly has a beard. The children from their school are all shocked. A beard for his age isn’t actually normal, right?
Daichi was in a daze, while Megabaa was having fun with his beard. Fumie, Yasako, Denpa, Haraken, and Megabaa investigate this with Megabaa’s newly invented extremely huge and weird microscope. They discover that the hairs are living Illegals. Kyoko then shows up while they were investigating. Yasako looks at her and sees she’s got the HIGE-looking ILLEGAL too! It was hilarious when they tried to keep away from Kyoko. XD Kyoko of course took advantage of their being scared. Denpa was the next victim. Everybody else grew beards too after a few hours including Densuke and Fumie’s slave. Yasako cried as she exclaims she can’t be a bride anymore. ^_^;;;
Megabaa took a closer look and discovered that the beard-looking Illegals are actually making their own civilization. Yasako communicates with them through another of Megabaa’s invention. She acts like their god as she teaches them what to do or not. As usual, not everything works out as she wanted for them. Eventually, the Illegals created weapons and fought with each other until a lot of them died. The children sent them off to Mr. Toma who’s bald, but the Illegals then left. They left a letter on Mr. Toma’s head. They explained they will find a promised land that is right for them.
This is somewhat a funny episode. You don’t normally see girls nor grandmothers with beards. XD
The beard-looking Illegals are like humans. As much as they had rules to follow, there are still people who against them. There are those who will create trouble or demand more. When things go against their wants or ideals, they start to fight which doesn’t result to anything good.

Dennou Coil Ep. 10
September 10, 2007 @ 3:44 pm (0 Comments)
The episode starts again with Yasako and another rumor she heard on the Net. She said that before glasses hit the market, the Nakatsu Crossroad was a mysterious place where many accidents occured. The statement is unrelated on the currents not until the part where she, Fumie, and Haraken went to Nakatsu Crossroads.
After Amasawa tried to burn down a Satchii, she disappears. Haraken is desynching and the others are terribly confused as to why there’s a Satchii in school. It was a hectic night for them with all the commotion that they got confused as to who won the game.
They all left the school the following morning. The Hackers Club met up with Isako to tell her that they won. Isako then says they lost because they didn’t get the glasses of the other team. Daichi ends up being rid of the club. Fumie, Yasako, and Haraken, on the other hand, were on the Nakatsu Crossroad to follow route Haraken discovered in his dream. They took a shortcut first, but decided to take the actual route when they didn’t find anything. When they did, they found an email with what looks like a password from Kanna.
With the help of her Grandma and after discovering that the password is actually what the letters show up if upside-down, they were able to access Kanna’s glasses. Yasako saw Kanna’s diary and read a part of it. The following day, she met up with Haraken who she apologized to for having read Kanna’s diary.
Haraken cried as he read. After that, he suddenly wanted to go to the route Kanna has on her diary, so they went to the Crossroads. Yasako tried to stop him. She told him that summer break just started and they could do that the following day. A mystery character took a picture of the two on the Crossroad. He wondered if the kids knew of the route.
That Isako character is such a know-it-all. I wish we will suddenly be given more background on this girl as I’m itching to punch my monitor everytime I see her. I want to know her goal and what’s all this Michiko-san about really. Argh~ Other than that, I’m all for the Yasako and Haraken pairing.

Episode 8
“Kids that have fallen asleep with their glass on end up going to the other side.”
Yasako had a dream being on the mysterious staircase again. There was that, probably, male voice calling to her and telling her to be careful because she’s close to it. Whoever said that didn’t clearly say what that it was, but after she askined what 4423 means, a huge Illegal-looking thing was already behind her.
Amasawa’s busy on her plans in opening a hole on an obsolete space in school. She found out that Haraken’s Aunt is trailing her, so she also planned on making a diversion by using the Biology Club members to have a game of courage in the school grounds. The Hackers’ Club are then swamped with tasks for her. After a before-summer vacation speech for the school’s student body, Kanna’s mother talked to Haraken and gave him her daughter’s glasses. She tried to use it to find out what Kanna was doing before her death, but she couldn’t access it because it’s password-protected.
Yasako, Kyoko and a friend of theirs who’s also a member of the Biology Club (I forgot her name ^^;) went there ahead of Fumie. Haraken was there first and was awestruck when he saw Yasako in a kimono. Fumie arrived in late and Daichi’s obviously into her… Only that Fumie’s oblivious to that matter. The two other girls try to get the two together and the other girl tries to get Yasako and Haraken together. I’m so into the latter pairing.
While the girls were busy talking about Fumie and Daichi, Haraken goes off and Yasako goes after him. They both saw an Illegal that’s actually Kuro. It is Kanna’s pet who got infected with an Illegal. It tries to get near Haraken and hands a stone to him. Unfortunately, it gets zapped by one of Satchii’s flying balls.
In the end of this episode, Daichi invites Fumie to the duel.
I think it’s not too bad to see some pairings develop in this series, but it might ruin the mood and plot of the anime. I guess I should be satisfied with the little hints between Yasako and Haraken. On the other hand, it might be too early to say that. I should have watched this series when it’s been completely subbed. *sighs* Every episode is like a cliffhanger to me. o_o I’m curious as to what that 4423, Michiko, and all those Illegals truly are. The ff. episode will be about the Biology Club’s friendship camp in school and the night when the duel will be held.

Episode 4
Amasawa is new to the class, but is giving everyone a cold shoulder including Daichi who was asking her her to join his all-boys club. Daichi wouldn’t let that pass and makes a prank against her. It only backfires causing his system/glasses to overload. He won’t stop though until he teaches her a lesson. They’re just fighting against each other until the end of the episode. Amasawa is on a completely high and different level with Daichi. She’s able to operate even without using her hands. There was also a part when Amasawa and Yasako had a little talk about ‘friendship,’ but Amasawa can’t be taken in easily by mere words. Yasako should learn to talk back when confronted like that… She’s too weak-willed. Tsk, tsk.
Fumie also joined in the fight between Amasawa and Daichi. She was trying to gain information from Amasawa while she’s busy with the boys. She only got little information though. Fumie thinks it was useless, but Yasako was shocked when she saw it. Whatever that was, this ending doesn’t seem exciting unlike the previous episodes, although I’m curious to what Yasako saw.
Episode 5
So we’ve got a new character in the series. His name’s Haraken and is the president of the Biology Club. Three of them — Fumie, Haraken, and Yasako — are going on a trip to find out more about illegals, but it became a hunt for metabugs. Plans also changed when they found out that Daichi’s club and Amasawa will be going out on a metabug trip too. The Biology Club members follow them until they arrived at their destination — a bus graveyard. There are lots of metabugs, but Amasawa tells the boys that there are bigger ones around. They dig under fifteen buses. Amasawa had other plans though. She only used the boys to find the right spot for her to open a space and get an Illegal. Not everything goes in plan when 2 Satchiis arrives. This scares everyone causing a lot of mess. Fumie, Yasako, and Fumie’s brother get chased by a Satchii until Haraken saves them. Ooh, a major surprise (and cliffhanger)! One more thing that surprised me is Haraken’s VA. XD Remember Edward Elric?
Yep, Haraken is voiced by Paku Romi. Ah, this makes me miss FMA.
Haraken is absolutely the opposite of Elric though. He’s a quiet kid.
Anyway, back to the plot of this episode, Daichi realizes that Amasawa is an encoder! Instead of trying to beat her, he’s now an underling of hers. He wants to become an encoder as well. Let’s see if he can handle being someone under than being the boss. XD
Episode 6
Fumie and Asako try to find out his relation to the Satchiis in town. Fumie thinks he’s evil to have a pet like Satchii. Wht they didn’t know is that Haraken’s sister created Satchii that is used to eliminate Illegals or fix broken spaces. After much search, they come across Haraken and, well, just talks and asks him about Satchii & his relevance to them plus his research on Illegals.
I’m getting tired of the fact they always have to search for Kyoko. Yasako should sometimes let her mom know that she can’t bring or take out Kyoko with her because it’s dangerous outside. That’s already a pretty obvious reason. Tsk, I don’t want to see Kyoko in the next few episodes please.
Densuke’s in danger too because of her.
Episode 7
Fumie and Yasako decides to help Haraken on his research about Illegals. They were already making plans when they were summoned by Mega-baa due to a case of a missing pet. Mega-baa told them that there’s a treasure and the secret is stored in the pet… 1/3 Would be given to them if they find it. Out of excitement and the need for money, they go out and look for it. The place where the hamster was last seen is also where Amasawa and the boys are doing some kind of Illegal-hunt. The boys don’t know about the hunt though. They were only asked to look after the encodes Amasawa did.
What I didn’t want to see happened in this episode again.
Kyoko followed Fumie and Yasako because she thought they were out to play. Fumie then asked Kyoko to help them search for the pet hamster. She found it, but Yasako lost track of her. Amasawa was the one who found Yasako and both were trapped in Amasawa’s own trap. It was set up in case an Illegal tries to run away. They wanted to ask help from Kyoko, but she didn’t and was only trying to run away from an Illegal that Amasawa was able to lure out before all these happened.
There’s nothing good about this episode especially if it concerns Amasawa. I don’t like her character, I don’t like it when Daichi’s there, and all their fighting is just *yawns*. Kids fight. I hope something interesting comes up in the next episode. Like why is Amasawa an encoder and what was on her back that Yasako saw in one of the previous episodes?
Anyway, seems like the girls were fooled on the so-called treasure. They thought it was the kirabug because the pet owner said the treasure’s something shiny. It was actually her husband’s head.

They were only asked to look after the encodes Amasawa did.
What I didn’t want to see happened in this episode again.
Dennou Coil Ep. 1-3

I guess it’s time for me to get back to reviewing anime. I was planning on reviewing a lot of series, but time won’t permit me atm. It sucks having a board exam.
But I’m sure it would be worth all the hard work once I pass it. :3
Anyway, I forgot how I got to know of Dennou Coil and what made me download the series. I have been itching to watch it ever since I got the subbed episodes. I was almost disappointed with the art. It doesn’t have the typical anime art we are familiar with. There are no bishies at this point, but I doubt there would be one in the succeeding episodes.
But the art is not a big deal when the plot is interesting. I guess some of you who have seen it may find it boring, but for me it isn’t. It’s surprising to see the probability of technology advancing to that stage, yet people still live simply. The technology in the anime deals with cyberspace; of beings coming from the digital world. Viruses also exists. The security officials have created moving robot-like anti-viruses they call Satchii, yet are still buggy since they couldn’t differ real or clean beings from viruses.
It’s impressive how shrines can’t be penetrated by these Satchii nor schools and residences. Well, people being targeted need a safe place anyway.
I didn’t think this anime has a sci-fi theme because the OP gave me the impression that it’s war-related and depressing.
The protagonist in this anime is Yuko. She and her family just moved to Daikoku where her Grandma lives. Daikoku seems to be more technologically-advanced than her old hometown. On her first day there, she finally gets herself in trouble with an “illegal.” Her cyberpet Densuke gets tangled in it as well by accidentally getting to an obsolete Space. Well, he was found in the end, but his troubles doesn’t end there.
Everything goes well for him in the third episode when an Illegal that infected him was finally removed. There was a girl who was trying to kidnap Densuke too… That really sucked, but I’m glad he was back at Yuko’s hands. :3 In the third episode, the girl who was after Densuke is actually Yuko’s classmate and they even have the same name.
You know, the only thing I don’t like in this anime is that pixel things they’re after makes me think there’s something wrong with the video. :S
