Hataraki Man Ep. 4-11

October 5, 2007 @ 3:23 am

I have seen episodes 4 to 11 (the last), but will still do my lamereviews per episode instead of just putting my thoughts on the whole series. I’m so late on this, I know. It’s just that I haven’t felt like blogging about anime lately. -_-

Episode 4 - Apology Man

This episode is about Hiroko’s boyfriend who works in a construction firm. He tries his best at his job, so that the workers wouldn’t get mad at him. He tried his best, but was then transferred to an office job with regards to sales. He suddenly regrets not being too serious with his work. He realized that he was afraid to take risks.

When I saw this episode, I felt the story would somehow revolve around him and Hiroko on how their work will affect their relationship. I thought it was already going to be bad for them in this episode, but aside from a canceled date nothing very bad happened.

Episode 5 - Turn-Around Man

Miyu’s dream is to be able to write a book with her favorite author. After she was able to land a contract for her favorite author, she found out from Hiroko that it would be Hiroko herself who would be in charge of her favorite author and not her. It frustrated her. She didn’t concentrate on the job she was reassigned to. When she complained to the chief, she was told that a second year like her wouldn’t be able to do that job and she has to do other tasks to gain more experience. She was able to fully concentrate after talking to her favorite author who admitted that she asked the chief to let Hiroko take in charge of her just so she could broaden her horizons.

It is true that if you stayed with one audience, they will eventually get tired of you. This type of thing does not only work with authors, but with others too. Like when you create homepages, you have to change your the look of your designs from time to time. I think that when you stick to something like that, you end up losing some of your creativity. Wanting to be creative means trying things you haven’t before. All right, this may already be out of the topic already, but I hope you guys get what I mean. It’s one of the lessons we get to learn in this series. :3

Episode 6 - Princess Man

One of the staff is ’somewhat’ thoroughly introduced in this episode. Yumi-chan, an editor, gives special scoops on a famous baseball player Shimura. Hiroko needs to interview him in her article Seven Samurai. She asks Yumi for help. She’s fine with it, but treated her coldly that was least expected by Hiroko. She rewrites her proposal to a shorter one after figuring out that Yumi does only have limited time with the baseball player. She goes to the field by herself to try to talk to Shimura herself, but the other reporters ignore her and even run over her. Yumi helps her up and introduces Hiroko to Shimura. Hiroko quickly explains her article to him and is finally granted permission. He says he can’t turn down a woman anyway.

Some of us may have met a Yumi-chan in one part of our lives. She’s the type of girl who uses her sexuality to get the job she wants. She claims there is nothing wrong with that. I did that before. Fyi, no, I didn’t sell my body to get what I want. Acting cute and sweet definitely got what I wanted. I was spoiled. This happened when our band was doing well with gigs. I met someone who handles productions and he gave us priority. He made us perform more songs than other bands. It was bad actually, but we enjoyed it. I had fun and I’m grateful. Yet I still feel guilty. I don’t know if Yumi feels guilty, but it’s true that if you want something real bad, you got to do everything you can to achieve or acquire it.

Episode 7 - Fussy Man

Hiroko is stressed with work and couldn’t get her gears working. She goes out for a short trip to the massage parlor, but, Shirakawa, the one who always assists her is on a day-off. Shirakawa is having troubles of her own too. They affect her work which make her worry more. She decides to quit her job and work on another place, but it doesn’t seem better. She told her boss that if they’re always pushed and stressed they wouldn’t be able to relieve the stresses of their customers.

It might have looked like a mistake to quit and move somewhere, but people irl do that, right? Once they find themselves too stressed and not happy with their work, they decide to move on to someplace else. :/ I wish I could do that. Ha! Anyway, I thought this series will focus only on the staffers in Jidai. Seems like anyone Hiroko gets in contact with ends up having their own episode. *lol*

Episode 8 - Payoff Man

This is an interesting episode. I hate to admit that I was touched with the work Chiba goes through and how he reacted after Natsume thanked him for selling her books.

Natsume’s story that is being serialized in Jidai will be released into a book. Hiroko talked to Chiba in charged of its sales to print more than 20,000 copies of as she believes it will really sell out. But Chiba wouldn’t change his mind. They’re afraid that they might not be able to sell more than that anymore. Plus, he wouldn’t let feelings rule their decision on how many books they have to print. Chiba is an interesting character. I know that you have to tease customers or give them a ’sales talk’ just so they would buy your product, but he’s a great actor. I thought he reads 54, but he doesn’t and only acted like he does. Just so he could easily relate to their customers. Then it was shown why he’s like that after his experience on a book he sold and promoted with extreme eagerness. He worked hard especially when the girl who edited the book was his crush. Just when the sales topped, the girl said it was all thanks to the author. He realized that he did all that for nothing. He wanted to be praised. It was different for Natsume’s work though. When he got to read 54 and noticed how much people liked the story, he told his boss to print more than 20,000. He was aiming 50,000 like Hiroko asked. He ended up with 40,000, but it was better than just sticking to 20,000. More copies were printed as every bookstore quickly sold out Natsume’s book. It was amazing. During the celebration party on the huge sale of Natsume’s work, Natsume quickly thanked Chiba. She found out from Hiroko that Chiba had pressed his boss on printing 40,000 on the first publication. He cried. Surprised that the author took notice of him and his hard work.

All of us want to be thanked for something we do for other people. Big or small. Also, if others have done something for us, we shouldn’t forget to thank them. The thought really counts. You know, it gives this warm feeling that we don’t experience everyday. ^_~

Episode 9 - The Full-Fledged Hataraki Man

Hiroko was given an article where she is the chief editor. The title of the article this time is Fifty Samurai. She said she could do it, but she overworked herself. She got sick, but couldn’t rest until she’s able to finish this article. She was given more work when some of the people she gave parts to had to back out because they got sick or didn’t want to do it anymore (as far as I recall). When one of the people she had to interview died, things didn’t go out smoothly after. This person who died is Mimura who did something related to computers. He worked too hard which they say probably resulted to him being sick and ended up dying. So, yeah, working too hard doesn’t always mean we’ll get high rewards. Our body will also suffer. Too much is always bad. ^_^ Anyway, following on Mimura’s way of working, when she got her article done, she thanked him in a whisper. I do not really recall what happened in this episode. I found it somewhat boring after the excitement from the previous episode. O_o

Episode 10 - Not-Working Man

The last of the four ladies in the editorial section, Kaji is introduced in this episode. She’s like the very, very mature version of Yumi-chan. She doesn’t flirt, but she gives this vibe that makes you respect and like her at the same time. She doesn’t take advantage of her being a female. Hiroko seems out of it in this episode. All that was shown is her thinking about her job and how Kaji handles her work and of being a woman. Kaji has a lover who was in an accident. That’s what they thought. She didn’t falter after hearing of the accident although she smiled when she was told of the good news that her lover wasn’t in the accident. ^^; Anyway, Hiroko was very weird in this episode. It wasn’t very clear until episode 11…

Episode 11 - Even So, Hataraki Man

Not-so-good things happened to Hiroko. Aside from the stress in her job, her apartment gets flooded as water leaked from the ceiling. It was a busy time for her because no one can work at a home in such state. She wanted to stay at her boyfriend’s house for the meantime. Instead, her boyfriend tells her that they should just clean up her room and have the problem fixed asap. So they did, but the fixing will take about a week to finish.

Hiroko works very hard because she’s got passion for her work. One night, while working on an article, her boyfriend visits her by surprise. He was drunk. He tells her that when he looks at her, all he could see is his worthless self. That may hurt although he did say that it isn’t Hiroko’s fault. I believe so too. It’s probably because the guy doesn’t actually have the passion for the work he’s currently in. He wanted to work in the field, but ended up in sales. Well, I guess it’s hard to blame him entirely. One would feel insecure of your partner who’s successful and is enjoying work while you’re not. Then again, if you think positively, you wouldn’t feel that low of yourself. Not all good things happen quickly. You got to be patient and, at the same time, you have to work harder.

After writing all these down, I could say that this is a good series. I have never given the series much though until I did this lamereview. ^_^ Oh, I apologize for any grammar errors. I may have missed some here and there. If you made it up to here, congratulations! *lol* I know most of you would have ignored this post seeing the length of it. XD; I would have added screenshots too so it wouldn’t be boring, but my Zoom Player wouldn’t let me. XP
